...TED AUG; 1959

THE WAGGON & HORSES 10:30am barbecue across from Cambridge Street's almost spotless perimeter wall...a catalogue of brick effects. Wot no graffiti. A marketing suite needs some attention opposite the new entrance where, hidden from the caged security cameras, the JCBs ply their trade amongst concrete piles. The primer and undercoat are being plastered over the old image - the old heart (the open heart) of the brewery site. What can the artists hope to extract at this late stage - as the brewery breathes its last? The glossy hoardings hover outside.

The dilapidated ornate entrance symbolises faded grandeur, obviously. The competition here is between a newly-tarmaced drive and a newly-emulsioned run down community centre. Horse box and horse shit by the meadow just round the corner from Garbets (?) butchers.

A break taken on a bench by the war memorial in front of The Parish Church of St Stephen the Martyr.
