Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, ggggnnnnrrrrrrrr, nahhhhhhh, oooooooooooooooooP …
I have been working with sound since the mid-2010s, maybe wishing
to challenge the primacy of the visual or perhaps as a ‘return’ to
the potential of the multiple in my bookworks … sound once more
offered a democratic, affordable means for me to distribute my
work. But even before this time I was alert to how noises
propagated through landscapes and how my spoken words trod a line
between intrusive and embedded within place.
My soundworks combine field recordings, found sound, constructed
sound/foley and spoken word to create responses to places and
themes. Treated and processed, my soundworks become not
soundscapes but speculative sonic environments. I’m particularly
interested in the possibilities of the human voice and the effects
exertion and repetition have on the spoken word. This could be
through live repetition of words or phrases, speaking while
running or the digital duplication of word fragments.
A selection of my soundworks can be found on my Bandcamp
page.
